The Ultimate Summer Uniform

Happy Monday!

Summer in Texas is HOT. That’s a fact. Oftentimes, a lot of people (including myself) will avoid activities before 8pm altogether. That’s just what it is.

Dressing for the scorching temps can definitely be a challenge. Not only do you want to appear stylish and trendy, you also want to stay cool, too. I love dresses. You don’t have to put a ton of thought into a good dress, cute purse, and fun shoes. {Using all the fashion blogger lingo lol!}

Lilly Allen made me fall in love with pairing a dress with sneakers. It’s one of my favorite ensemble combinations. I purchased a long, silk dress from NG a few years ago, and I wear it with low-top converse. It’s a good errand look.

Also, I absolutely love Reformation’s summer dresses, but they’re a bit pricey. Luckily,  clothiers like Forever 21, Topshop, and Mango house summer dresses at a fraction of the cost!

A Sweet Treat!

Happy Monday!

Dallas finally got something remotely close to the illustrious, Museum of Ice Cream—Sweet Tooth Hotel. This cute little pop has been a hit since it descended upon Victory Park. For twenty bucks, guests can waltz through the colorful corridors of the quaint space.

The sweet-inspired artwork is curated by some of Texas’ own, like, Jeremy Biggers, Shamsy Roomiani, JoJo Chuang, Rob Wilson, and Chelsea Delzell. My first visit included a swoon-worthy ensemble with stripes, a round mini bag, and two of my close friends; we took turns snapping all the photo opps. D Magazine referenced Sweet Tooth Hotel as an “Instagram Museum,” and boy, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Teddy and I decided to take advantage of the sweet, artsy decor and bring you guys a visual treat that only TSB could deliver! 😉

Art & Fashion: A Beautiful Union

Happy Sunday!

I fancy myself an art and fashion/style enthusiast. I love art; I love fashion. The two are where my soul lie; a marriage of expression, creativity, and individuality. The best thing about having a platform such as a blog, is having the ability to share my creative mind with the masses. I’ve found great pleasure in allowing my inhibitions to run free through my creativity.

I’d like to think my blog is more than just posting snazzy photos that are pleasing to the eye; it’s so much more than that. It’s about my undying love for aesthetics, forms, shapes, and the like. We are but a few weeks from the end of 2017, and I look forward to sharing more of what ignites my soul in 2018 and beyond.

Special thanks to the amazing team over at Fort Works Art! It was a pleasure shooting in their awesome gallery. If you haven’t visited, it’s worth taking a trip to Cowtown. The space is truly inspirational, and they house work from some of the most notable artists in the nation!Saint Hoax, Sara ZaherWhat ignites your soul?

Pink, Stripes & Everything Nice!

Happy Sunday!

I don’t know about you, but spring is undoubtedly the best season of the year. It’s the perfect time to experiment with lighter hues, patterns and prints. I enjoy storing away my dark-colored nail lacquers, and reaching for pink, lavender, mint, etc. Lest we forget the weather is ideal – it’s neither too hot nor cold!

Recently, I talked spring’s most-coveted trends, like, shirting, statement stripes, and shocking pink. Storets has become one of my favorite online clothiers; everything I’m wearing is straight from their site. They’ve got the shirting trend down – the top I’m wearing was an instant buy. I couldn’t leave without snagging the skirt; I love the silver hook in the front – It’s a total nod to those I used to wear in the early 90’s. 😉

What are your thoughts? What trends are you eyeing for spring?

5 Year Blogiversary!

Happy Tuesday!

The Style Barn is officially 5 years old! Time flies when you’re having fun, and maintaining this blog has proven to be one of my greatest accomplishments. TSB has afforded me a plethora of opportunities that are too numerous to list. I can’t take the credit for it all, I’ve worked with some amazing photographers who helped bring my crazy ideas to fruition. As I continue to grow as fashion/style blogger, my goal is to share my love for fashion on a more consistent basis. I’m appreciative to all of you who support the brand; my gratitude surely goes beyond words!

Hello, fall!

Happy Monday!

Fall is here. *Inserts excitement*

Summer came for a day, packed it’s bags, and left. Fortunately, it left its temps behind. If you know Texas’ weather, you know we won’t experience the cooler temps until mid November. I find that to be a good thing, because you can still get away with wearing certain pieces that are deemed for summer only. Since mid-August, I’ve purchased pieces here and there from my Fall musthaves list (I’ll share with you all later on this month). Nonetheless, one of the items on the list is a fringe skirt. During one of my pinning sessions via Pinterest, I spotted inspiration with exactly what I had in mind. Having said that, I’ve joined forces with Tobi to bring you inspiration that you too can recreate  for fall/winter, without breaking the bank!

What piece(s) are you coveting for fall/winter 16?

The Shirt Dress

Hey there!

Expect to see me in a shirt dress from now, until it gets cold again. I’m obsessed with the many variations, but I like the menswear-inspired versions. They look great with almost any shoe. I like to pair them with sneakers, chunky heels, lug soles and/or flat sandals. The one I’m wearing below has a masculine touch up top and a flirty, feminine look at the bottom. It definitely gives off a private school girl vibe.

A 70’s Affair

Happy Thursday!

*Cues Shaft theme music*

I’m excited to share this post with you all, not only because it’s been awhile, but because I’m literally grooving in an all black 70’s-inspired look. I had a blast shooting this and the location was ideal for what I envisioned. I had the ringlets, gold hoops (haven’t worn a pair since God knows when) and it’s my first post of the summer!

For those of you that don’t know, I fancy myself an old soul; I’m even guilty of using slang terms from the 70’s. (LOL) I’ve often pondered, “Is it possible to be obsessed with an era you didn’t live in?!”

What are your thoughts on my 70’s-inspired look? What era are you obsessed with?

The Style Barn Turns 3!

Happy Saturday!

I can hardly believe that it’s been three years since I established my blog. It was no easy feat, but here we are!

Last year, I didn’t celebrate, but this year is about reflection. The journey I’ve embarked on as a Fashion/Style Blogger has been both difficult and rewarding. It’s a humbling experience – I would’ve never imagined having the opportunities afforded to me through hard work and perseverance. My mentor, Kimberly O’Neil has been such an amazing supporter since the day we became acquainted. She is the force that really pushed me to establish my blog.

Originally, TSB was a platform that I used to shed light on like-minded individuals. Features, trend reports, and product highlights were a large part of the blog. Building a rapport with individuals not only from DFW, has been imperative to the livelihood of my brand. Luckily, I’ve been fortunate to do just that! I’ve transitioned into offering my readers a glimpse of who I am, in terms of style.

Lastly, I appreciate all of you who lend your time to read my posts in their entirety, offering a kind word in the comment section below, and being a force behind my determination to progress.

Thank you! Xx

P.S. Those cupcakes were really good!
