We have approximately 11 days until summer ‘17. Are you ready? If so, good! If not, me neither! LMAO
I think I’ve discussed in previous posts that I don’t buy a bunch of threads when a new season is on the horizon. For starters, my disposable income won’t allow it, and that just seems like a daunting task.
Therefore, I purchase pieces at a time — good for both my wallet and sanity. Speaking of which, Beehive Boutique is my favorite! Their website AND stores are oozing with the trendiest pieces. It’s like shopping at a retail oasis, especially their location in Fort Worth!
Keep your eyes peeled for these summer ’17 trends:
Shirting – One of my favorite trends; I don’t see us tiring of it anytime soon.
Gingham – I own a fabulous gingham skirt. I personally approve of gingham on gingham.
Basket Bags – I’m STILL trying to snag Cult Gaia’s Ark bag, it’s seriously a best seller.
Retro Swimsuits – Don’t be afraid to opt for a nostalgic one piece or high waist bikini.
Slides – Another one of my favorite trends! I’ve accumulated quite a few from Zara.
Bold Florals – Start with an easy maxi if you’re reluctant to try this trend.
Do you remember those ensemble sets, or for the sake of familiarity, short sets your mother picked out for your daily summer adventures? My fondest memories of summer fashion were those (sometimes ridiculous) short sets. I had a lavender and lime duo that I considered a staple; I chuckle just thinking about it.
Thirty years later, and I STILL love a good set. They’re perfect for both spring and summer; and honestly, less time is spent with finding something to wear. Whether it’s a matching set or mix and match number, you have the luxury to throw on and go.
The sassy, yet quirky set I’m wearing isn’t a set, but to the untrained eye, it appears to be. 😌
My tips for nailing said look:
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different patterns and/or prints. For example: gingham, polka dots, floral, stripes, etc.
Choose your shorts, first.
Seek out pieces that can be remixed with existing threads you already own!
Have fun with your look!
I want to hear from you! What’s your style protocol for scoring the perfect summer set?
I don’t know about you, but spring is undoubtedly the best season of the year. It’s the perfect time to experiment with lighter hues, patterns and prints. I enjoy storing away my dark-colored nail lacquers, and reaching for pink, lavender, mint, etc. Lest we forget the weather is ideal – it’s neither too hot nor cold!
Recently, I talked spring’s most-coveted trends, like, shirting, statement stripes, and shocking pink. Storets has become one of my favorite online clothiers; everything I’m wearing is straight from their site. They’ve got the shirting trend down – the top I’m wearing was an instant buy. I couldn’t leave without snagging the skirt; I love the silver hook in the front – It’s a total nod to those I used to wear in the early 90’s. 😉
What are your thoughts? What trends are you eyeing for spring?
The Style Barn is officially 5 years old! Time flies when you’re having fun, and maintaining this blog has proven to be one of my greatest accomplishments. TSB has afforded me a plethora of opportunities that are too numerous to list. I can’t take the credit for it all, I’ve worked with some amazing photographers who helped bring my crazy ideas to fruition. As I continue to grow as fashion/style blogger, my goal is to share my love for fashion on a more consistent basis. I’m appreciative to all of you who support the brand; my gratitude surely goes beyond words!

I’m always researching fashion trends for the coming season. Hence, the reason why I’m wearing polka dot trousers in one photo, and blush cords in another. It’s a habit; in case anyone wants to peruse through the site and find out, it’s all here.
Polka dots, pink hues, and shades of yellow are showing up this spring. If you’ve never been to Dallas, our weather is pretty unpredictable. We’ve already experienced spring-like weather — highs in the 80’s last week.
Beehive Boutique in Fort Worth is the chicest. The inside is so picturesque, and the store is oozing with trendy merch for the fashion gal on a budget!
Heres’s a list of trends for Spring 2017:
50 Shades of Yellow
Single Shoulder Cut-Off
White Shirt Dresses
The New Trench Coat
What trends are you coveting for spring?
Also, I’m wearing the Crayola x Clinique’sMango Tango and Tickle Me Pinkon my lips. They showed up as a slight tint on my lips, but they’re extremely moisturizing nonetheless!
Post-Christmas sales are Heaven-sent. If there’s any holes in your wardrobe, that’s the perfect time to fill them! Zara and Nordstrom are worth mentioning, because I scored chic pieces without going over budget. I’ve also taken advantage of American Apparel’s Going Out of Business sale. Regular-priced items are 40% off and everything on sale is 70%, um yes. These high-waisted denim pants were a regular $70, but I got them for $21! Not to mention, they make my derrière look quite nice.
I had a look in mind involving a crewneck sweatshirt and denim pants, with fishnets underneath. The one I’m wearing was originally $55, but I bought it for $22. It’s a TopShop original, sold at Nordstrom. It has both a feminine and masculine appeal, and it looks good with almost anything, whether it be jeans or a skirt. What were your post-Christmas sale finds?
I jumped on the Huarache bandwagon last fall, while visiting a SIX:02 location, here in Dallas. Initially, I was shopping for pieces from Rihanna’s apparel line, Fenty x Puma, but I got distracted. I wandered over to the shoes, and one of the reps encouraged me to try on a pair of Huaraches. My initial thought was, These shoes are difficult to put on. However, that didn’t stop me from wanting them. After stuffing my feet into the 8, I pranced around the store in hopes of finding a way to talk myself out of buying them — nope. Needless to say, I went home with the sneakers. Mind you, I’ve never paid over $50 for sneakers, so I guess that’s why I had a case of buyer’s remorse. I returned the sneakers the next day, only to end up snagging an Adidas bomber I spotted before eyeing the Huaraches.
To my surprise, I was gifted a pair for Christmas from the SIX:02 team! It was totally unexpected, and the shoes arrived a few weeks prior. Huaraches are a stylish sneaker; once you get them on, they’re super comfortable. Eventually, I’ll wear these whenever I go running (which will probably be never 🙃). My first wear was last week, and I paired them with a top from MissGuided. I like really like the idea of wearing rocker tees with leather bottoms, and completing the look with an edgy sneaker.
Do you have a sneaker crush? If so, share it in the comments below!
I’m slowly, but surely crossing all the items on my fall/winter wishlist. All except for the candy-floss-pink coat from Gucci, priced at $15,000. *SIGH*
Lately, Zara has been my go-to for inexpensive fall finds, and more. I found a pair of flared trousers that are just as chic as the Lisa Says Gah, Flared Trouser. The bell at the bottom is certainly an eye-catcher, and they’re a perfect fit! The top I’m wearing is another favorite purchase of mine via Zara. I was eyeing the tulle top online, but never made a purchase. When I saw it in store, I didn’t past go! Lol
Tell me about any recent fall/winter finds you’ve purchased!
Velvet is one of those fabrics that I’ll never tire of, and it’s making a comeback like never before. A few weeks ago, all thanks to Octer, I scored the chicest velvet skirt for under $50. The skirt is a bit short, but I prefer shorter skirts for this time of year, because they look great with tights. Speaking of tights, I’ve been dying to wear the fishnets I snagged for $6!
What velvet pieces have you snagged for fall/winter?
If you missed the Color Condition Installation via the Galleria Dallas, shame on you! The gorgeous paper chandelier hung above the Main Rink of the Ice Skating Center. Marianne Newsom and Sunny Slinger’s work of art made for a great shooting location. The looks below were chose by yours truly, from Zara!
